Acupuncture is part of a system of medicine known as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) or Traditional East Asian Medicine (TEAM). It was developed in China over 3,000 years ago and can be safely used alongside the conventional medicine your GP practises. It treats the whole person, physically and emotionally, and is used to help maintain health and well-being.   The basis of TCM is that the body can heal itself if the life energy, Qi (pronounced “chee”), can flow freely and without impediment. By inserting very fine needles into the relevant points on the body, blockages and stagnation of energy can be released, leaving the body pain-free, calm and relaxed.
